Washington, D.C. – The Council for Affordable Health Coverage (CAHC) supports today’s announcement by the Great American Health Alliance and efforts to ensure any future reconciliation package includes reforms that lower costs, expand choice, and put patients and consumers at the center of the health care system.
Health care affordability remains one of the most urgent challenges facing American families, workers, and employers. Heading into the mid-term election, Congress has an opportunity to advance practical, market-based policies that make coverage and care more affordable by simply expanding access to Health Savings Accounts, increasing transparency across the system, and getting discounts on prescriptions directly to the patients that count towards their health insurance deductibles and cost-sharing caps.
Any future legislation should strengthen competition, give consumers greater control over their health care dollars, and direct resources to patients rather than insurers and middlemen. CAHC looks forward to working with policymakers, employers, patient advocates, and health care leaders to advance affordability-focused solutions in any future reconciliation effort.
