Washington, D.C. – Americans deserve lower prescription drug costs, but CMS’s final GLOBE Model takes the wrong approach. It relies on a government-driven pricing scheme that does not address the underlying forces driving up drug prices.
“GLOBE will result in many physicians closing their doors or joining big hospital systems, reducing access in local communities and increasing incentives to build monopolies. CMS should be testing systems that improve care for cancer patients,” said Joel White, President of the Council for Affordable Health Coverage.
Importing a system that limits access to cancer drugs overseas risks creating similar challenges here while doing little to improve affordability. Whatever the label – demonstration or other – GLOBE expands the Inflation Reduction Act’s price controls, potentially restricting access without addressing the root causes of high drug costs.
