Washington, D.C. – The Council for Affordable Health Coverage (CAHC) applauds Congressman Greg Murphy (R-NC) for introducing the Every Dollar Counts Act, legislation that would expand the use of direct-to-patient prescription drug discounts, including through innovative tools like TrumpRx.
Congressman Murphy’s bill would deliver real savings to patients through drug discounts – as much as 95% off list price. This bill will bring affordability to 215 million Americans by requiring health plans to count a patient’s actual out-of-pocket spending on prescription drugs through transparent drug discount platforms toward the plan’s deductible and annual out-of-pocket maximum. This is not a new entitlement. It is not a government price control. It is a common-sense market reform that aligns incentives around affordability, transparency, and consumer choice.
No patient should be punished for making a smart, cost-conscious choice.
Affordability is the defining concern for Americans. In health care, it determines whether patients can get the medicines and care they need to stay healthy. Congressman Murphy’s legislation helps remove barriers to that care and improve health outcomes.
