Washington, D.C. – Today’s release of the next round of prescription drugs forced to undergo government price setting in Medicare is the Biden administration’s last-ditch effort to rescue a laughably bad law. The so-called “Inflation Reduction Act” has increased government bloat and red tape, taken taxpayer dollars away from Medicare, resulted in higher premiums, fewer plan choices, and reduced medical innovation – all while providing no clear value to beneficiaries. As evidenced in this past election, this ‘signature win’ doesn’t even add value for politicians. This is a dangerous and misguided attempt at bureaucratic control.
There is an unprecedented opportunity to clean up the Medicare bureaucracy and ensure that America stays not only a free and fair market society but a leader in medical innovation. President Trump and Congress must act swiftly and repeal the Inflation Reduction Act and put a real system in place to lower drug costs.
Principals for what Medicare seniors and taxpayers want:
- Never take funds away from Medicare to pay for other pet projects;
- Eliminate the CMS politburo in charge of drug price setting;
- Create a meaningful out-of-pocket cap seniors know exists, without raising premiums;
- Increase (not decrease) opportunities for medical innovation.
It’s time to focus on what Medicare seniors want and need, not what politicians and bureaucrats dictate.
