Joel White discussed the new Congressional Budget Office’s new report on obesity drugs with Inside Health Policy.
Joel White, president of the Council for Affordable Health Coverage, said in a statement to Inside Health Policy that Congress was wrong to not cover AOMs in the first place.
“The CBO’s analysis confirms the products will improve health and lower hospital and other service costs. In looking at observational studies, the CBO may be missing savings compared to bariatric surgery,” White said.
“…the marked-up version of the bill targets a subset of the population included in the CBO estimate. Therefore, the CBO has dramatically overestimated the costs of what Congress is currently considering. We encourage Congress to pass this bill quickly to correct past mistakes,” White said.
