Inside Health Policy spoke with CAHC’s Joel White about the Trump administration’s ongoing discussions with Congress on what to include in a GOP reconciliation bill, including MFN and TrumpRx.
Council for Affordable Health Coverage President Joel White also predicted Tuesday that codifying TrumpRx, which currently relies on voluntary deals between the White House and drug makers to offer MFN pricing for drugs sold on direct-to-consumer platforms, could be added to reconciliation, but he told Inside Health Policy Congress is “still working through legitimate policy concerns.”
“Like, how would this work?” White asked. “What kind of incentives would it create? Would it cause production to leave? Would it cause fewer products to be developed?”
Yet White told IHP he is “picking up very good vibes” from lawmakers on codifying TrumpRx. He cited interest from Arrington as well as Senate health Chair Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and pointed to a bill from Rep. Greg Murphy (R-NC).
“I think it’s a candidate for reconciliation,” White said, arguing that codifying TrumpRx could save Medicare $8 to $18 billion per year.
