Washington, D.C. – The following statement should be attributed to Joel White, President of the Council for Affordable Health Coverage:
“Today’s introduction of the Lowering Drug Costs for American Families Act by Representatives Neal, Pallone, and Scott is another example of doubling down on failed government-first policies that hurt patients. The idea that expanding the Inflation Reduction Act’s drug price negotiations beyond Medicare and to more drugs benefits patients is absurd at best and deadly at worst.
The drug shortage issue in our country is so extreme that the FDA currently lists 14 oncology drugs on its shortage list. That means, right now, millions of cancer patients cannot access life-saving treatment. Lawmakers should look for ways to increase investment in new drugs and eliminate drug shortages instead of adding gasoline to the dumpster fire of drug price controls.”
