WASHINGTON, DC (September 30, 2019): The Council for Affordable Health Coverage (CAHC) – a coalition of employers, insurers, patient groups, PBMs, brokers, agents, life science companies, and physician organizations – responded today to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) newly announced demonstration project providing broader access to wellness programs for individual market enrollees in 10 states.
“CAHC has long championed solutions that unleash innovations already underway in private health insurance markets while also delivering greater flexibility to states. This CMS demonstration project holds potential to do exactly that,” said CAHC President Joel White. “Beneficiaries in many employer-sponsored plans already reap the benefits of wellness programs and it only makes sense to provide these same incentives to enrollees in the individual market. This is a tangible way that policymakers can motivate healthier behaviors, improve outcomes, and lower costs without heavy-handed market interventions. We commend Administrator Seema Verma, CCIIO Director Randy Pate, and their team for this effort and look forward to monitoring its progress.”
