Washington, D.C. – Today’s Energy and Commerce’s Health Subcommittee hearing, “Checking-In on CMMI: Assessing the Transition to Value-Based Care,” must include a discussion on value-based purchasing (VBP) arrangements.
VBP arrangements are a key innovation to addressing the rising cost of healthcare, particularly in the specialty drug market. Tying reimbursement to a patient’s recovery instead of the amount of medication taken is a commonsense solution to rising drug costs, and a game-changer for those battling cancer or living with a rare disease, whose treatments are often costly.
Congress can expand access to these arrangements by passing the bipartisan Medicaid VBPs for Patients (MVP) Act, which further integrates value-based arrangements into all federal and private insurance markets, bringing financial relief to millions of Americans.
CAHC commends Reps. Guthrie and Eshoo for their leadership on the bill (H.R. 2666), passed out of the Energy and Commerce Committee last year, but the Senate has not (S. 4204) moved on the bill. CAHC encourages committee members to use today’s hearing to call on their Senate counterparts to step up and support the MVP Act.
