MVP Act is the Most Valuable Piece of Legislation in Combatting High Healthcare Costs
Washington, D.C. – A key component to reducing healthcare costs is taking center stage at today’s Energy and Commerce Committee hearing. The Medicaid VBPs for Patients (MVP) Act revolutionizes how we pay for care.
The bipartisan legislation has support from payers, patients, and drug companies and bases reimbursement on a patient’s outcomes, not on the amount of medicine consumed. Correlating a patient’s care with their recovery gives doctors, researchers, and drug companies more incentive to be innovative in developing cures. This would be especially impactful for rare disease patients whose treatments can be expensive.
“The MVP Act is in the unique position of having the support of both parties and every major player in the health care system. It reforms patient care by putting the patient’s best interest and recovery at the heart of their treatment,” said Sloane Salzburg, Vice President of the Council for Affordable Health Coverage. “Any objection to this bill goes against the tidal wave trend towards an outcomes-focused, value-based care system.”
