WASHINGTON, DC (November 1, 2017): The Council for Affordable Health Coverage (CAHC) – a coalition of employers, insurers, brokers, agents, patient groups, and physician organizations – today endorsed the CHAMPIONING HEALTHY KIDS Act, legislation offered by Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR) to reauthorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which has operated without Congressional authorization since September 30, 2017. The bill will appear before the House Rules Committee this afternoon and is expected to be considered on the House floor this Friday.
CAHC President Joel White released the following statement:
“CAHC strongly supports Congress’s planned vote on reauthorization of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). On behalf of our broad coalition of employers, insurers, manufacturers, brokers, agents, patient groups, and physician organizations, we urge a ‘yes’ vote on this measure and will factor Members’ votes on these items of legislation into determinations for our forthcoming Affordability Champion awards,” said CAHC President Joel White. “Every day that CHIP remains unauthorized is a day that access to health care is threatened for one of our most deserving, vulnerable populations: children. A failure to allocate funding for CHIP could rip away coverage altogether from some nine million kids – a reality that is simply unimaginable. CHIP has long earned widespread, bipartisan backing and deserves a strong showing of support this week on the House floor. We commend Chairman Walden and House leaders for taking action on this measure and urge the Senate to quickly follow suit.”
