WASHINGTON, DC (January 31, 2018): The Council for Affordable Health Coverage (CAHC) – a coalition of employers, insurers, brokers, agents, patient groups, and physician organizations which unveiled its Prescriptions for Affordability initiative to address prescription drug access and affordability last year – responded today to President Trump’s State of the Union address. The speech included a commitment “to make fixing the injustice of high drug prices one of my top priorities for the year.”
CAHC President Joel White released the following statement:
“CAHC and our Prescriptions for Affordability partners appreciate President Trump’s call to address prescription drug affordability and access. We are encouraged that this rhetoric has been matched with action – including a record number of generic drug approvals at the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and passage of a strong FDA Reauthorization Act – but we know there is still more work to be done,” said CAHC President Joel White. “We look forward to our continued work with the administration and Congress to ensure swift passage and enactment of thePharmaceutical Information Exchange Act, relief from regulations such as Medicaid ‘best price’ and anti-kickback rules that stifle innovation, and greater uptake of value-based arrangements that reward quality and deliver results.”
White concluded, “According to our projections, the solutions contained in our Prescriptions for Affordability blueprint could save the healthcare system $71 billion a year once fully implemented. That is real money that translates to real relief for consumers who need it most. CAHC will remain steadfast in our work to keep turning these solutions into legislation, and legislation into law.”
