( Washington, D.C.) The Coalition for Affordable Health Coverage (CAHC) recently announced it has hired Joel White, former Staff Director of the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, as its new Executive Director. Mr. White replaces Laura Trueman, who has taken a position with a United Health subsidiary after a long and distinguished run as CAHC Executive Director.
CAHC is composed of a diverse group of national associations, small and large businesses, doctor and hospital associations, drug and device manufacturers, consumer groups, insurance companies and brokers who all act to educate and advise members of Congress and the Administration. The specific purposes for which the CAHC is organized are to promote the enactment of tax credits or deductions directed to individuals and families for the purchase of private health insurance; and to promote other market-oriented approaches for extending private health insurance coverage to the uninsured.
“Affordability of health care is a key Presidential and Congressional campaign issue for both political parties,” White said. “But this really is about families and individuals who can’t afford health coverage. The Coalition stands ready to help turn good ideas into law so people can get coverage.” White worked for more than a decade to help make insurance more affordable for Americans and to improve their health outcomes; he was instrumental in effecting federal tax code incentives that encourage people to buy health insurance.
“Joel’s extensive experience working with Congress, the Administration, and numerous business, consumer and health care organizations will serve the Coalition well. We are pleased to have Joel leading our cause for affordable health coverage for all Americans,” stated Janet Trautwein, the Coalition’s Treasurer.
CAHC works to meet its objectives by holding regular briefings on Capitol Hill to communicate proposals for the uninsured to policy-makers. It also provides publications for research and reference on these issues. With its broad base of Coalition members, CAHC has a wealth of practical and industry expertise to provide to policymakers as they seek to enact legislation to help the nation’s uninsured.
CAHC has also retained Strategic Health Care, an advocacy and association management firm based in Washington, D.C., to assist in the management of the Coalition and service to its member organizations.
The Coalition for Affordable Health Coverage was formed in 2001.
